Flashing lights mean get out of the way...

..not drive into the ditch. I don't know how many times I'm going to a call with lights and sirens, everyone up ahead of me pulls off to the shoulder, then there is this lone car, with people ahead pulled over and behind. Somehow they are oblivious to the giant white LED flashing box screaming up on them until the last minute or a honk of the airhorn. Once this person realises that there is an ambulance behind them, they swerve at highway speeds to the shoulder. It's painful to watch and sometimes we wonder if we're going to have to stop for them and dispatch another rig to the origional call. I guess the moral of the story is that I wish people payed more attention on the highways, it really erks me because there are so many circumstances where time is the factor and people can allow us to get to destination faster if they payed more attention on the road.

Ok, I feel a little better..

I find it even more infuriating when people don't move for emergency vehicles. I see so many people who just keep driving. Retards.

The best one I saw was a show about this exact problem where a guy had an ambulance boxed in at an intersection. He got out of the car and started yelling and swearing at the ambulance driver to shut his siren off. You can only hope that he needs emergency help sometime and runs into someone like himself.

I see this all of the time. I've been a firefighter for three years now and I remember the first call I drove code 3 to. I'm screaming down the road to a fire and no one is moving. I'm like seriously people, one of these days its going to be YOUR house on fire, or YOUR loved one sick that needs help but no one seems to care. Also had a woman complain to my chief about the sirens. She said why do you need them and he responded what do you want us to do, wait until we get to the house to turn them on? People need serious help.

I see it around here all the time especially on just a two way highway and the other side doesn't even pull over. I just think that if I was in the back of the ambulance I would want people to move over.

can the ambulance drive on the wrong side of the road to get around stopped traffic? assuming its clear

Best situation I was in was driving in the center lane on a 4-lane (2 each way no division) and a cop behind me with his lights on. Lane to my right is full, to my left is oncoming, the cop behind me looked pissed at me... what was I supposed to do? Sometimes people with flashing lights are as oblivious as drivers are dumb. Not saying you are, but some.

@Cop - Paramedic; Only way to go. :)

@Sean - Yeah, we have some dumbass Amberlamps drivers too. It's hard to say what you should do without seeing a .. picture? lol :).

In that situation I would've literally had to start flying to not piss the cop off. I always already going 5 over so I wasn't going to speed up...

Two solutions arise: A Deer Rail and ramming speed. He doesn't wanna move at the stoplight? Bash his dumb*** out of your way. Mkay, a little extreme, but there are idiots who probably deserve it.

There are, but then that would be making more work for ourselves. :(

Yeah I was driving up Highway 16 outside Rapid City, SD cruising in the left hand lane going around some guy in a caddy, and out of nowhere there is a cop coming up behind me and the dick head in the other lane wasnt slowing down and i was like **** i dont want to slam on my brakes and having this cop hit me then at the last second the guy next to me sees the cop and slows down so i could get over. But in his defence that cop was hauling ass.

My senior year me and 2 other guys invented a device that could in it's most basic form turn down the radio and flash a light to alert a driver that an emergency vehicle was approaching.
