Fbody/C5 Brake Upgrade Help

arc

New member
So, Im interested in upgrading my brakes on the 2004 model GT I've got. I have heard of two alternative: Fbody upgrade, and the C5 upgrade. I would love to know what years are able to bolt on, the wheel size needed for the C5 upgrade, and what parts I would need (for C5, i know it needs Fbody rotors, C5 pads and brackets)

Any help would be great! Its coming time to replace my pads, and id rather just do a big brake upgrade now.

Heres where i saw the idea.

carlo06gt- yes you can use the sleeve or tap out like the fbody. 12" rotor. i tapped mine out.

as you can see in the pics i'm using stock lines both my front/rear zzp junk stainless brake lines broked. all i did was bend the brake lines brakets to give it little slack for the wheels. i can't tell between the stainless and stock lines pedal feel that everybody said. your stock 16" wheel will fit fine. the cross lace gp wheel won't tho. here is the link below tell you the size you need to tap out to.

yes i think they better than fbody..my pop have the fbody and i drove his ride few times. i think my c5 have quicker stopping than his. the weight of the c5 caliper without the bracket is way lighter than the fbody. pistons on the c5 are smaller that's why i think the stopping is more firmer and better.

Cant use C5 brackets, have to use F-body brackets with C5 calipers.
and either use the sleeve method or drill and tap new bolt holes for the brackets.

all 16s clear the f-body except the crosslaces, the C5 are the same, but i've read some 16s they wont clear. There cooling fins are taller. You can always shave them down though.

mine have fbody bracket the only reason i use fbody bracket cuz when i bought the c5 calipers it didn't have the bracket so i end up picking a set up at LS1tech.com. i also later bought another set of c5 calipers with brackets from craigslist and looked at the bracket and they are identical to the fbody. beside the piston in the c5 is smaller than the fbody...the only piece that is not interchangeable with the fbody is the chatter shim (it's the light metal clip in the middle of the caliper) there's one on each of the calipers. the fbody piece won't fit on the c5. on the c5 it's little bigger i believe.

here's my c5 with fbody bracket/pads, 16" gp wheels and still on stock brake lines. some day i will change to goodrich lines when i'm bored.

Guess I thought I read the C5 brackets where different.. Its been a long time..lol

I know they will fit TQ stars and 5 spokes. But I don't think they fit regal wheels. Like the one in front of your car in that pic.

One thing though...don't EVER sleeve them. I've seen a few pics of that if it fails...and its not pretty.

Not this again... People have had tapped ones fail as well.

Key is LOCTITE, but some claim even that backs out.

Apparently the GM service manual claims you should replace those bolts once you take them off.

No...you miss the point...are you running F-Body's with sleeves? Didn't think so. It isn't smart...and even Loctite isn't going to stop that from sliding out.

ok, so FBody rotors + Brackets with C5 Calipers and have it drilled and tapped (since my dad has a tool for that anyways) and I'm golden, pretty much?

C5 Calipers would be the bigger pads, correct?

Any idea on which year GM F-body would yield their rotors to my 04? I'll edit this if i find something on Bing or Google instead :)
