• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Failed emission test again.

Found a defective PCV tube that was letting air leak in. Replaced and the car's idle dropped to normal speed and the car ran much better.

Hydrocarbons had been 2.36 on the first test with the passing standard being .80. Second test the hydrocarbons dropped to 1.9.

What else?

PCV itself?
Catalytic Converter?
Upper Intake Manifold gasket?
Lower Intake manifold gasket?
Plugs?
All the above?

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Registration expired 11-30 and pretty soon the cops will be pulling me over! :-(

[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica][SIZE=-1]A high HC reading is the result of poor combustion. The most typical cause is a poor ignition system. HC is nothing more than fuel that makes it out the tailpipe without being burned.

Are the plugs old? are the wires old? Could be a vac leak aswell. Do you have a Scan gauge?

The plugs and wires are at least 5 years old, about 50,000 miles ago. Do not have a Scan gauge. What does a Scan gauge do?

true...

Check the vacuum lines on the top of the engine.

There aren't many.

Just start spraying carb cleaner around and if the engine speed lowers then you've found it.
