External transmission filter?

Hey everyone,

I'm wanting to make my transmission last as long as possible, the odometer has 228,000 on it now. The transmission shifts fine as it is, and the fluid is red (not bright red, but red), and not burnt looking\smelling at all. My plans are to add another cooler, drop the pan, change the filter, and install the "medium" shift kit described here:

One thing I was curious on is an external transmission filter. What I have done in the past with good results is use one of these:
Perma-Cool Remote Oil Filter Brackets 1791 - SummitRacing.com
with
WIX Filters Transmission Filters 495-51622 - SummitRacing.com
I plumb it into the cooler line, and change that filter every few oil changes. I've done it with my 1989 F150 and a few of my friends trucks with great results, it's all the craze at FSB (Fullsizebronco.com), as well. I was thinking on installing this while my engine was out, what do you guys think?

Wix is what I got in the future though I might go with the oil filter style ones however I've read nothing bad about wix trans filters I have mine double clamped with fuel injection clamps. And lock wired so the lines could never pop off.

I was thinking of running something like that, but I was hoping to find something a bit more friendly when I goto change it. My concern is the micron rating on the filter I posted, it's 28. Seems a bit high for what I want. I was doing some reading over at Bobistheoilguy and from what I read, 5 micron is best. Hell, even my normal oil filter for my l67 is 17 micron. I ended up going withe a FL1A filter (which is stock for my 5.0 in my truck) on my truck, which is a 20 micron filter.

Here's a pic of the setup I have on my truck. I know that B&M says to mount the cooler upside down, but this is how Ford mounted these cooler stock (this one is off of a E350 van). You can see the top of the filter mount down on the frame rail:

I had the wix but decided to with the summit racing b&m kit Now. If your that guy that does burn outs and high-speed maneuvers on a cold engine/trans then you should keep Tue factory cooler in the loop if you live somewhere really really reallly cold otherwise standalone will work just fine winter or summer. I've been running that way since 08' never a issue. And I've lived in ga Colorado and arizona

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for just didn't look hard enough.. LOL!!!! I hadn't searched much for the inline filter kits, that was just one I found... But the cooler I had is similar to what I want... Where I live it doesn't get cold cold.. I mean freezing at night yea but rarely below 20 and daytime temps are usually above freezing.. My winters are "mild". I have also heard the pros vs cons of having an external trans cooler, I'd just like to keep it separate!!!

Heck especially during the winters I always let the car idle for at least 30 seconds to get everything flowing...dunno if it makes a difference or not. But when its cold cold out my dad always told me to let it warm up some before driving
