I was getting this error code every time I drove the car even when I reset the code. I tried this cure and it worked.
Fix:
I removed the gas cap and noticed there was dirt around the edges of the rubber seal. I cleaned all the dirt off and sprayed it with silicon spray.
I haven't had the 1404 code since I cleaned the cap.
