Engine Stalled...car shuts off when in drive or reverse

So today i was on my way home and my car shut off while at an idle speed... when i tried to start it, it would crank but not start so i pumped the gas at the same time and it started, when i put the car in drive it automatically shut off again. so i disconnected the maf sensor and it started and didnt stall... what could be causing this nagging issue??? i replaced the fuel filter and the crank sensor...could it be a dirty maf sensor?

Just remember not to buy new MAFs, their crap. Pick up a JY one, or get a good used one off of eBay.

That kind of bad advise, seeing how brand new Ac Delco MAF's are just fine to go out and buy off the shelf. Any electrical part can be hit or miss on weither it works or not. Same goes for a junlyard part.

Oh, didn't know AC Delco still made 3800 MAFs... But, from everything I've read with people having issues it seems the new (must be non-AC Delco) MAFs usually cause more trouble than their worth, and a known working used MAF usually has better chance of, well, working.

But, I'm no expert. I'll look into things more before giving advice in the future. :)

EDIT: Wowzers, new AC Delco MAFs are not cheap... https://www.google.com/search?q=ACDelco+213-4338&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=ACDelco+213-4338&tbm=shop&spd=0

I remember when this happened to me, i had to get towed home cause car would not start, ended up unplugging MAF sensor, and car started just fine, 25-30$ part used online, and 100$ tow. Was no fun, car would start, and die right away, make a REALLY funny noise if you revved it to keep it running.

Update: picked up a maf from the yard and p0102 code came up. Wire is, going to order a new maf and see what happens

I have the same code, it's low voltage to MAF. I replaced my MAF with a year-correct used MAF (xxxx05 instead of the xxxx04 that was in it) and while I was at it got rid of the oil K&N (sometimes they get oil on the MAF and it kills it), but still had the code. Although it fixed some of my specific rough idling issues. I've since determined that it's a wiring issue somewhere, and I'm going to take a Ohms tester and figure out which wire it is. A wiring diagram makes this not too bad of a project, abit tedious, although I manged to loose my diagram somehow...

That too, mine is blown, and it keeps blowing. So, if it's bad and you replace it make sure you double check it a few times just in case there's other issues.

Fuse is fine. I saw on another post the 97&98 maf are year specific so now I think I picked up the wrong year from the junkyard

buy a used one, oem works best, they run like 40 used on line. new aftermarket mafs suck, they never work well.

im running a used maf for the last 5 years now.
