Engine noise while accelerating

Hello Everyone,

I have been hearing an engine noise while accelerating lately.

When pushing it at or above 3k rpms I hear a “nun-nun-nun-nun-nun” rhythm over the normal engine acceleration. I don’t remember hearing this in the past. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of noise or do you think I should have it checked out?

2004 Grand Prix
3.8L V6 (non-super charged)
110k miles
Plugs and wires changed a couple years back

Thank you!

You mean my scientific description of “nun-nun-nun-nun-nun” isn't good enough haha

I will report back with a video if I can get some good sound quality.

Actually.. I am sitting here talking to wife and mentioned this noise that was mentioned. I think I know it.

What rpm are you seeing when you are hearing it? When I say nun nun nun nun nun out loud it sure as heck sounds like an engine bouncing off the rev limiter. Not that I'd have done that when I zipped by Advance and saw any of the usual guys out front.

My 2003 3.8L V6 does this.......To my knowledge this is the rev limiter in action, so you don't blow the engine. I believe you can remove this with some different chip/PCM process, not sure I would do that thou. If you rev to 4K+ RPM and then drop in gear, you might be picking up pcs of your tranny for a few blocks :)
