Engine Issues

Are these engines known for breaking cranks? I ask because I just snapped mine. I broke between the #1 and #2 connecting rod journals. Also, are these interference engines? It does not look like the two halves turned on their own, but I am still worried that I could have clipped a valve.

Thanks!

I've only heard of a crank snapping one other time, and that was earlier this week. Which we suggested he try a different mechanic. So no..it's not common at all.

Definately interference.

Sometimes I wonder if I should try a different mechanic.....
Guess I will be taking the heads to the machine shop along with the block to be checked. From what I can see so far, it dinged up the connecting rod at the crank, but both valves looked closed and there are no dents in the pistons. Maybe I get lucky for once. Any recommendations for a replacement crank?

Yea, a replacement longblock and call it a day. For the price of replacing the crank and all the machine work needed to keep the bottom end together it would prob. be cheaper.

You don't think it would be worth having the parts checked? Everything in the lower end was already replaced two years ago. If the number one main cap is ok, I would think it would be fine.

Got the rest of the engine apart. Five out of six pistons hit the valves. One bent push rod. It just keeps getting better.
