engine block heater

I would like to know if it is possible to locate the block heater on my 04 grand prix 3800 in either side of the block?

I have a 2007 GP 3.8 with block heater. Can I replace the power cord without removing starter? I suspect I have built in thermostat that won't turn on til -18C? and, since in my garage it won't work.

unless the cord is damaged its the heater that burnt out. its changeable. and yeah the starters coming of. its two bolts. easy.

If the end of the cord looks like this, it won't turn on untill 0º F or -18c I think.

You can remove that cap and take out the sensor inside there, then just solder the two metal tabs together and it will work at any temp.

I'd do it the garage or somewhere that you can set the plug in on a good surface, it's kinda hard to get the wire to stay flat so you can solder it across.

My first attempt only lasted like 3 days, bumps and stuff broke the solder so I had to redo it. Second time I used gobs of solder wire to make sure it worked lol.
