Electric Impact Wrenches

Anyone use these as an alternative to buying a compressor? I know a pneumatic impact would be a lot better, but I have no place to store an air compressor.

I was looking at purchasing this one. Seems to be the best bang for your buck.

Anybody have any experience with these? Any other recommendations for roughly the same price? The most daunting task I can think of using it for right now would be installing my SSC's, but I'm sure it will come in handy many more times.
 


i have the 18 v 1/2 inch drive and 3/8 dewalt impact and they are fine with lithium batteries but if i had it to do over i would have bought a snap on or make they are adjustable up to around 500 lb ft of tq and they are no joke nearly as powerfull as a great air impact
 
We have a cordless Dewalt 3/8 electric impact. It is awesome. It is so handy, you don't have to run hoses everywhere. I think ours was 6 years old before we rebuild the batteries and for 2 of them it was like 90 bucks. Not an extreme amount. We went with a 3/8th because it can go up to 1/2 sockets with an adapter and still have enough power to get the job done.
 
I have a half inch drive snqpon cordless it will break about annything loose on the car axle nuts ect. I dropped 450 for it I would not buy any of the cheaper makes their advertised ta compared to what they do is a joke.
 


The Milwaukee 18v 1/2" impact is a great tool. It puts out 450 ft lbs. and breaks alot of bolts loose. Wish i would have bought this first before i bought the snap on one. Milwaukee builds the cordless tools for snap on. I would have saved alot of money buying the milwaukee first.

I have an old Black/ Decker plug in electric 1/2". She will bust the lug nuts off my dually with no problem. Ebay special for 25 bucks.
 
I have the milwaukee on and if you get the li-po batterires they work amazing. Home depot will be the place to find them.
 


I have an older craftsman electric impact which was my Dad's and it still works really well.. Although I do love my air tools... I can't wait to get my compressors in my garage since they're still at my parents house.. I have a 60 gallon up right, 30 gallon horizontal.... those are tapped into a 300 gallon tank almost identical to this

Talked to my cousin this weekend and he has his snap-on impact for 4 years and the first battery is just starting to go out on it.....
 
So I got the battery and the charger in today. Got the tool itself on Monday. First thing I wanted to try it out on was my trailing arms. I bought a pair of "Wbodystore boxed trailing arms" from another grand prix forum, which are just Doorman trailing arms. I had bought them last year and tried a few times to put them on but couldn't because I could not get the bolt off that attaches the trailing arm to the knuckle. Even with a breaker bar and a BFH I couldn't get it to turn, and we all know how bolts like to seize up. Especially if it was/is a northern car. Well, this thing loosened up those bolts without breaking a sweat. Took me all of 15 seconds to get the bolt out. Lugnuts are obviously not a problem. I'm going to be using it to put on some lowering springs here in the next few weeks and I imagine that won't be a problem either.

Moral of the story is, if you are in the market for an electric impact wrench, I highly recommend the Milwaukee. For the price it can't be beat. And it's portable to boot. :D
 
I have the blue point 3/8 drive set I bought from the snap on truck 4 years ago for $200 it came with the impact gun, a flashlight,two batteries and a charger. It works great. Although I think its only like 100 foot pound its great for lug nuts and bolts up to like 15 mm.
 
im glad i found this thread. i always looked at electric impacts and just kinda chuckled. learn something new every day
