Egr valve & gasket plus sealer?

My 99 grand prix 3.1L threw a EGR code. It pulses at idle once warm. It hesitates when going from 55m/h to higher speeds. I took the egr valve off the other day & cleaned it. It was stuck down. It moves freely now. I did not clean out the intake passage way. It get the egr code again. My main questions is do I put any kind of gasket sealer on the gasket of the egr valve?

if its a metal type gasket and its still one piece, just reuse it.

make sure the tubes didn't crack to and from the egr. if one splits it will run poorly.
 
If the passageway is restricted enough it could still throw the code. I would clean that out too. But just use a metal gasket
