EGR is stuck in open

i just bought this car a few days ago and got a realy good deal on it due to a slight knock and engine light being on. I fixed the knock (had a boost leak) and now all that needs to be fixed mechanicaly is the EGR valve. Im not two car smart but i can turn a wrench. When i scaned the code said that the EGR is stuck in open position. And the two probable causes are Failed EGR or Carbon blockage of the pintle. i swaped out 3 egr valves so ik it's not the first one. How do i clean out the carbon blockage of the pintle and what is a pintle?Code # is P1404

Take it off, you will be able to see the pintle, just spray it down with brake parts cleaner and use a tooth brush or similar and clean it.

how do you get rid of the EGR-

you have to get the code removed from your pcm, then u need to make or buy block off plates, i installed my block-off plates with copper rtv and anaerobic gasket maker and it worked well.

other than having one less piece of crap on ur motor, what good does the removal of the egr do? doenst it hurt the car and mileage to remove it?

no, the egr is over-rated at saving gas mileage. You won't be sucking in all the nasty, dirty exhaust gas anymore, if u remove it.

true..any other downsides? and r there any upsides? ill so do this tomorrow if u can give some info as these things suck. can i use hp tuners to remove the codes?

i havent had a egr for awhile now and there are no downsides at all my MPG's are the same....the upsides are cleaner air going in and less carbon build up in the TB and more room in the engine bay...and yes you can rid the codes with hptuners....i've deleted the cat, egr, and EVAP system from my car....3 things less to worry and better sounding exhaust:) ...

Info? They suck Period ;)

Take off your intake tube and see all that black crap/gunk built up in your throttle body...all of that is from your EGR...clean your TB and get rid of the EGR. All you need is 2 pennies and RTV...cut the stock brackets off of the EGR Tube on each end that would bolt to the header/manifold & the LIM. Then put a penny in each larger hole and RTV the piss out of it. Bolt it back down and there you have it. Then you just have to get the code deleted from the PCM via a tuner...because it won't run worth a sh*t without the EGR and the code still there...

okay..im sold on doing it now as long as someone can tell me how to remove it using hp tuners. still new to tuning and dont have a clue how to do this. i think i know how to remove the check engine light from coming on but thats it
