EGR Delete

Is there any benefits to deleting the EGR? Pro's and Con's etc anyone?

I been trying to research and came across a couple of threads saying there's an EGR Delete Kit? Was wondering where.

Pro: slightly cleaner intake, easier tuning, less engine bay clutter, less leak points

Con: Slightly less mpg (like 1 mpg), can increase kr very slightly

Don't waste money on the kit. Take off egr system, cut the egr pipes, take the brackets left over, take a penny and take some high temp copper rtv and use it to secure and seal the penny. Then re-install flanges and let dry. That's my 2 cents!

you need it removed in your tune, so not tuned, leave it alone. other wise the pcm thinks its working when its not and you could do some damage.

Thanks Scotty, forgot to mention that. He's right because the egr is a metered vacuum leak, plus the exhaust gases affect the combustion process. Once tuned, delete as above. Good news is even canned tunes work for this.

Thanks! Yeah, that last part from Scotty was good to know because I was going to get on that today... So if I'm understanding correctly, No EGR delete until I get a tune?

Where's the best site to get a canned tune? ZZP?

Also when it's time to block off EGR. Which section will be blocked off and left alone or even open? 1, 2 or 3 (Refer to image below)

you block off 2 and 1 take the rest off and toss it in the trash can lol

i made my own block off's. 1 inch flat stock, drill a hole for the bolt, then cut it to length so it covers the hole rtv around the hole and bolt it down. free block off's.

I personally ran for years with the EGR deleted before I tuned it out. And I actually saw a small increase in mpg.

Cut pipes on lines 1 and 2. Remove pipe, remove rest of egr. Place pennies and rtv. Install and let cure. Done.

Here's what it should look like in both sides to give you a better picture:

Sorry for the egr plug hanging down and you won't have some of that tubing (or headers) there so it might look a bit different.

Haha true that. Mine was rusted really bad. You'll definitely want some pb blaster and a 6 point wrench and some curse words. Much easier with headers.

Yeah np! I had a hard time visualizing it too. Just sits in the flange. You'll see it when you remove the egr. Good luck!

yeah cause headers you put that damn thing on before you install em lol

i used a 1/4 ratchet smaller is better here.

You're lucky! Took me 2 foot 3/8" breaker bar heated with propane soaked with pb blaster and hit with 5lb hammer! Thing was STUCK! :th_laugh-lol3:

wow, i did break mine free with a 3/8 th but theres no room to work it, so i went smaller. used a deep socket too, got you off the manifold just enough.

Lol yeah, I had the luxury because I took off the header with the egr attached, and had it out of the car when I did my header install.

Haha Yeah! I was like, why would they! I took it off and tried threading it in the way it made sense. I had that feeling as if my best friend gave me a cheat code that I will never die but it didn't work haa.
