Eating fuel pump fuses

So, last weekend I go to start the car, it always starts virtually instantly first twist of the key. No start. Try like 3x and it starts up runs fine. Drive to the liquor store, shut it off, go inside. Won't restart. Walk home (without my beer). Walk back in the morning and find the fuel pump fuse is burnt. Not in the center as most blade fuses normally burn out but the post is smoked and the plastic of the fuse is burnt pretty good on the top side. Pull the horn fuse (15A) and replace the FP fuse, starts right up.

Couple days later. Cough cough sputter sputter trying to start, finally no start at all. Fuse is fine. I bend the tab on the relay thinking my low speed side is failing. Car starts right up.

Yesterday after work, I go to leave. No start. Fuse #2 is burnt same as the first, smoked. Replaced with a 20A spare because I haven't made it to the parts store to buy more 15A. Started right up as usual.

Do I have a fuel pump on it's way out that is overloading the circuit when I try to start up or is this a wiring problem?

Unfortunately, I agree. Went to go to lunch and it started but stumbled around and died 3x before I got it to stay running. Acting like low fuel pressure until it can get up & run right. Runs fine after that. I just need to get 2 more starts out of it to get me home and then it can sit until I get the new pump put in next week. At least the heat index is only going to be 110+ next week...

I'm the getting the $80 255lph pump BillBoost recommended in another thread. Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 255 LPH Fuel Pump 1997-2000 - TREperformance.com

I found some forums where Bill recommended that fuel pump. But I couldn't find any posts of anyone's experience running it? Sounds like a good deal for 255 lph if it runs for a couple years. I heard the new 255 lph ones ZZP sells fail within months.

I Googled around on TREperformance awhile before placing my order. I figure, like most things that don't work you'll find a bunch of p!issed off buyers if they didn't work. Found people using them in vettes, beemers, subarus, evos, hondas, etc. Only one negative comment I could find was about a maf someone bought from them. You can be sure I'll report back if I have problems.

That was fast. Ordered it on Friday received it on Monday (USPS). Put it in last night. Nice & easy except for fighting the stupid lock ring back on to hold the pump in the tank. Then my only problem was I only had about 1/4 tank of fuel and my gas can was empty so I couldn't fill the bucket the pump sits in. Died about 5x getting to the gas station. Ran fine to work this morning. Hopefully this has it fixed. Pump runs nice & quiet, no louder than stock.
