Driver side AC 15º warmer than Pass side

The driver side of my 2001 GP w/ dual zone climate control is about 15º warmer than the passenger side...which isn't desirable since I daily this to work by myself!

Any idea what the cause may be and solution? It has been like this for a couple summers now.

I'm interested in an answer too.. My passenger side is slightly cooler than the drivers side. Been like this ever since I've owned the car for 6-7 years now. I almost wonder if it's low on R134? Never hooked a gauge up to it though.

If it's not a blend door. AC might just enter the car on the passenger side and as it travels accords the dash in the ducts it warms and will never be as warm.

Maybe point a couple passenger vents towards the driver side.

When mine gets that way, I know its low on refrigerant. Been driving them 7 years now and its always that. Only with a full charge will the driver's side be as cold as the passenger's. Must be how airflow through the core is set up.

I just put two 12oz cans of charge in. The system was completely empty due to a slow leak somewhere. Hoping the dye leads me to that.
Today it had to of been a 20-25 degree difference. I read on a thread somewhere GP's can hold 36oz of freon? Probably best to get a gauge before I try another...

Mine also did this and it was low on Freon i added 24 oz and now both sides are ice cold. My gauge was at 25 psi before adding the 24 oz.

I joined this forum specifically to try to fix a very similar problem with my sons 2001 Gran Prix GTP. I had pulled the driver side actuator to make sure the door had full travel & it did. I was scratching my head as the compressor seems to run for the normal amount of time & did not short cycle due to low refrigerant but I'll hook the gauges up to it to see if it is a bit low. Thanks for a quick (possible) answer!

I came across a TSB from GM a couple months ago when I replaced my compressor. It basically said that some GM vehicles were not charged with the correct amount of refrigerant from the factory which caused insufficient cooling. The updated amount that was called for was 2-1/4 lbs. Also calls for an updated sticker to reflect the correct capacity. The TSB # is 99-01-38-005 if anyone is interested in reading it.

I'm not sure if that's the fix for you OP, but it's good info for future reference.
