Driver Airbag removal, broken wires

I made the mistake of turning my steering wheel when it was disconnected from the rack and pinion and broke the airbag wires inside the steering wheel, now the airbag light stays on. Anybody know anything about this? Where it would break, how to get to the wires, and suggestions for repairs?

I was gonna start by taking the airbag out of the steering wheel and see if I can fix the problem from there. I wasn't going to solder because I assume that would change the ohms and somehow affect the sensor, so I was just going to splice and tape them with either wire terminals or a twist on.

How do you take the airbag out?

Thanks

you broke the clock spring. you take the air bag off, then the wheel and then a ring clip and its the round thing under the snap ring, the wire runs down the column to under the dash and gets plugged in under there with the ignition harness. its bolted with a 8 mm bolt iirc. if you have radio buttons on your wheel that wires plug is by the obd2 port.

Oh ok. I don't have radio controls. Are there any pics of this by chance for this model? I wanna know what I'm in for before I start on it. Thanks

google your year and the part. pics come up. used will be cheaper. and radio controls makes it even cheaper.

i just kinda dove in, never really found a good how to.

all the plastic under the wheel on the column needs to come off the metal shield too under the plastic, the wires are zip tied to the column. the cover under the dash by your feel come off.

you figure out the air back removal yet? the wheel you need a small 2 jaw puller to pop it off. the air bag has 4 small holes in the back, you put a small screw driver, well the largest that will fit the holes, then turn the screwdriver to unlock the clips. do one side at a time. then lift it off, then un plug the air bag.

un hook the battery before doing this, dont want to eat a air bag.

Of course, I've been driving it with the fuse out just in case. I haven't started on it yet, but I will tomorrow. I appreciate it. Will update this tomorrow, with some pics (why not)
