Double Din DVD Player Install

Hey all, I tried searching the forum but to no avail. I'm installing a Pioneer AVH-P3400Bh (double din touch screen dvd player/bluetooth etc..) into my wife's 2007 Grand Prix. It's a base model but it does have the on star. I got the good wiring harness and have it all wired up and ready to go.

The problem I'm facing is if I need a dash kit or not. I called a local stereo shop and they said "a double din won't fit dude, that's a 1 1/2 din car". The guy's an idiot. I tried to find a dash kit at wal-mart and best buy... but to no avail. Do I REALLY need one? The past two installs I did were in 99's (a GP and a dodge ram) that were both single din easy peasy. This one's got me all confused.

Thanks!

Oh and call your local best buy and give them that part # or tell them the vehicle and they should have one in stock to avoid shipping cost from Crutchfield.

Ok thanks dude. I was hoping to get around ordering one. Best buy didn't have one in stock (They were where I bought everything from). I'll hit up our second wal-mart maybe I'll get lucky. I have no clue where else to even try to look for these things.

And yes, the car audio guy was an idiot lol, I know what my car has, I can see it! haha.

Thanks

*FACEPALM* I said it was a 2007 lol. And yes I just ordered up that one from Amazon last night. Should be here saturday.

I've seen it done before on the 97-03. It does require some cutting into the dash, but it IS doable. There's more then likely a thread around here about it somewhere. I had thought about it with my 99 a few years back but never got around to it. Well and I was a broke college student back then lol

Yea it's double there's a few of the 97-03 guys that switched to a double din ill see if I can find you some links later in the evening.

I've seen pics of a double DIN deck in a '97 op '03 GP, some where they had to lower the heater controls, but I was curious if you could stuff the double din mounting kit in the dash, or will you have to do a home made mount?

The mount might actually work with a bit of work but I don't remember anyone going that route so you may be the test subject.

Hey all just wanted to let ya know we got it all hooked up. I put up a pick. Everthing went pretty smoothly. The door chime works but the date doesnt seem to. I havent bothered trying the on star. Anyways, thanks for all your help!

Looks good. Nice and clean! :th_thumbsup-wink:

I wonder what it would take to swap out her plain jane steering wheel for one with audio controls... hmmm...

I'd bet there is already an empty wire harness for the steering wheel controls, so you just need to find the wheel and plug and play. Consider most the wires for steering wheel control run to the stock radio wire harness...

Ok all now i got another few questions... Hope they will get answered. We just ordered some headrest monitors... How do i remove the stock head rests and anybody have some suggestions on a good place to tap for power? Thanks!

It's simple..push the indent on the headrest as you would normally do to raise or lower it and at the same time on the opposite side there's a little pin sized hole..put something in that hole ( I use a very small Allen key) then push in and raise the headrest out at the same time
