dorman intake/stovepipe replacement

After changing my LIM gaskets, my buddy did his, but his Dorman intake kit had a new smaller diameter stovepipe included. He has a 98 buick, and I have an 02 GT. I bought the intake from ZZP, so its a Dorman.
I have researched online, but I'm getting conflicting results. It seems like the issue was fixed 99+, but also am reading that it wasn't.....

My question is, was I supposed to replace my stovepipe with a smaller diameter one?
my old UIM, wasn't warped, but its a Delphi intake

the upper intake has the fix in it, which is a metal ring instead of being all plastic where the stove pipe meets the upper intake. as far as i know there isnt any smaller stove pipe fix.

the L26 UIM has a smaller stove pipe hole, but you dont have that so no worries about that.

I had an 02 GT before my GTP that I had this problem happen to. The upper intake melted around the "stovepipe". The Dorman replacement did come with a new stovepipe that stepped down to a smaller diameter to give a little air gap between the pipe and the plastic intake. Unfortunately, the car was totalled within a year of the fix so I didn't get to test how long it would last.

I don't think I ever looked in the new dorman.... ogh well. I know for a fact that I didn't get a new smaller stovepipe, at least it an easy fix.

The HV3 doesn't fit in the Dorman intake without modifying it, so I'm just going to find a low mileage UIM from morad.
