doesnt move after 1-2 min of driving

i picked up a 1997 gtp yesterday. I dont know much about these cars or this one its self but heres the problem im having i can start the car up and drive it for 1-2 mins it shifts perfect even under hard accel (floored)than it will stop moveing all together it will not engage in any gear . it has the same symtoms under hot or cold conditions.trans fluid level good. i dont know i was thinking it could be low pump press possably cloged? blown torque converter please some one help !!!
 


It sounds like the filter may be plugged up. If you use the search feature you should be able to find several threads on this problem as the subject has came up numorous times. Often you can change the trans filter and it may be ok for a few days or weeks and the problem returns because there is a lot of debris from something damaged in the trans that will plug up the filter. When the car is not running the debris will settle down and as soon as you start the car and the pump is spinning in the trans the debris gets sucked into the dacron filter material and restricts flow to the point where it can no longer make pressure. The easiest thing to start with is to drop the pan and remove the filter and cut it open to inspect it.
 
i removed the pan and cracked the filter open there where very fine flakes of metal in there i replaced it and it drives perfect !!! but im kinda afraid to put the car on the road cause i dont know how long it will last there where no major chunks of metal or anything am i gonna have to do the tranny ????
