Do I just have a odd car?

Hey guys. I wanted to make my car louder, so I ordered some thrush super turbo mufflers 2 1/4 in and out. I lifted the car up and cut the factory mufflers off, but when i went to slip the new mufflers on they were way to big. Come to find out my pipe is only 1 7/8 after the Y. So now I'm driving it without mufflers and it actually sounds exactly like i wanted it to. My buddy has a 2004 grand prix straight piped and his is WAY louder then mine. From all the threads i've read here everybody said there's was 2 1/4, is mine just a odd ball. Also why would mine be so much quieter then my buddy's, and all the other one's that I have heard? I looked at NAPA's exhaust diagram today and it shows that it should be 1 7/8 at the muffler

i have the turbo thrushs and like them... just go and get some exhaust 90s and straight sections and make the entire exhaust, thats what i did, less than 100 bucks with the mufflers.

Cept mine are 2.5 inches in/out
