i am planning on waxing my car today i have already clay barred it but now debating if i want to use a polish before a wax.
the wax i will be using is meguiars tech wax 2.0 and planning on doing two coats of it. i used a buffer with the tech wax last fall and it really shined so im wondering if polish would make that big a difference? my car is silvermist if that makes a differenc

Depends on the condition of the paint. Does it have scratches? Swirls? What polish are you going to use? A polish is going to actually "cut" the paint. The wax is just going to add shine and protection. If you have scratches/swirls you're only going to cover....temporarily. Do it once....do it right. If you have tools and time.

I would probably start with a light rubbing compound then up to a polish. Then maybe a glaze. Then your was/sealant.

In automotive school we were taught:
Wash from top down
polish with polishing compound and buffer where needed(hood, doors near handle, boot)
Overspray clay and final touch everything carfull to not touch trim plastic
Wax
And i learned to put it in the garage after all that work.
Looks like its fresh off the showroom floor again!
Dont do this to a non s/c gp though, they were not built for it ;)

Polish always. You may as well give the wax something to protect. I took my white car and made it white again from a previous yellow white simply from polish. 6 hours worth of polishing though...
