Not a handle swap thread by any means. Was concentrated on the fab work instead of taking pics. Only have the one. Will add more later as I look for other ways to improve upon what was done/used.
Got the idea in the JY and grabbed a 2001 Cadillac DTS shifter. These were also found in STS. Got it home and found that the mounting is about two inches lower, further back off to the side and the cable connection holder is different. I began fabbing to check feasibility. Had a Regal shifter sitting on the shelf, took measurements and robbed the bottom mounting plate. Ended up welding the Caddy shifter onto the Regal shifter bottom plate, made a bracket for the shifter cable, took the ball the cable attaches to and moved that over as well. Tried some measurements to get it even front to back and side to side. Trouble with that was..the Regal stuff is offset and the Caddy stuff is centered, some eyeballing/guessing was involved. I'm no brain surgeon or engineer with great measuring skills. I'm more of a trial and error then tweak kinda guy.
Got the bracket pretty well set. There are no adjustments though. It will need to come out again. I can either mod this one further or restart and hand this off as a prototype.
Issues:
1. Right side not welded, needs additional support to keep from moving slightly when the P or R push is made to the right. (Moves 3-5mm)
2. Move entire assembly forward about half inch forward. (Likely able to do with slots on bottom, would prefer to change instead and not cutting/rewelding.)
2. Hook up the key release and brake shift release or control as it's called in the FSM. (electrical, didn't take much time by that point, currently I held the release bypass (orange tab in pic) with a screw)
3. Mod bracket/structure to accomdate additional lighter sockets I have in the console.
4. Finish work for surround to existing console.
