Different sealant?

Hey guys. So I bought a non hd trans and put my differential in it to make it a hd. I'm just curious if i was supposed to seal the cover or not. Cause i have a leak coming from it.i think.

When you put the cover on.. by hand. Did it sit perfectly flush or was it a pull on with the bolts? If so.. you likely broke the cover based on one bearing sliding out of place inside.

Get up in there and take a closer look. The only seal that you should have seen is one on the diff cover. It's a large o-ring that is around 5" or so.. same size as the diff cover.

When I put the cover back on it went on perfectly. No trouble at all and didn't have to use the bolts. It looks like it's leaking from where the cover meets the trans. Not where the axle comes out. Should I use some anaerobic gasket maker or rtv?

I hate when you everything put back together, just to realize you forgot to put one thing on and have to spend an hour tearing it all back apart again.

Look closer at your cover. See that drag mark inside it.. your diff pin is no longer being held by the roll pin that holds it. Very very likely your cover is cracked or about to. You .....sorry to say, seem to have larger issues.

Take a closer look at your diff. Mainly the big pin going through it. Looks from the cover that it's walking around and scraping things up. Hence the mark on the inside that looks like the one I posted. That's why I took my cover off.

If that cover leaked.. with that gasket, maybe the gasket is nicked or something. But that look of the pin on the inside..that's baaaad
