Definately not a Quad 4...

Hey all!

I hope this isnt one of those dead forums that are sitting around on the internet.

About me:
Married, with 1.5 kids (next one due in Feb)
Work in Aerospace repair facility
Used to be an active Quad 4 junkie, I moved on.

Now to what you might even remotely care about, my new car

Its an 05 'legitimate' Comp G, fully loaded with every option from dual zone climate to factory remote start (since not all of them came that way)

Purchased for $10k, still owe $8.9, with 96k miles. Rip off? Probably, but eh, helps the credit score.

I have been tossing around the idea of going back to a manual transmission and getting a '11 WRX, but thats not enough family orientated for me, besides, im lazy and with the morning commute to work and traffic, automatic is nice. Also thought about an '07 Avalanche, but eh, i think the grand prix will handle the snow, at least better than the Saab 9-3 i used to have...

Car isnt perfect.

-Trac/Stab control light will turn on if i park on a slight or major incline when i shut off and restart the car. Move half an inch and restart the car, light is gone everything works. No ABS light. Ive tried new wheel bearings too. IDK wtf....

-Fog light has a lazy eye, idk how to adjust that...if you even can...

-the steering buzzes on first inital take off after being parked for the night. once again, i dont have a clue...

Thats about all i can really remember.

Its not the fastest car ive ever had, but, that would be changed if i could find that "modding bible" everyone talks about. It certainly is faster than the Quad 4 / 2.4 Twin Cams i used to mess with ages ago. Much more aftermarket as well.

Now for the pictures!

And counting....

I look forward to messing this car up :)

Welcome! Congratulations on your new ride.

I know it had a few issues, but the Quad4 was definitely ahead of its time powerwise.

Looks like you have a few mods on the car right now as it is. You have the SPO spoiler upgrade on it, as well as the SPO grill upgrade.

looks clean...a bit steep for the miles, but hopefully it suits your needs....btw, not every option...missing nav system...:D

Steering 'buzzes' after you have driven just a couple feet?
If so, I believe that's just the ABS self-testing.

Welcome.. These motors are boring compared to say a water pump on a Quad 4. Whoever thought a 10 foot timing chain was wise.. ugh.

thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone! ive been so busy i havent had time to reply, so here they are

RareGMFan: you are right about the quad being ahead of its time with the power output, but it was also, in my opinion, ahead of its time in labor costs and cost to maintain vs other engines of that time. also not to mention how picky those engines are towards everything. sure you will get those few that just seems to run forever though. in my experience with the quad 4 and 2.4 tc alike, those engines require the utmost maintenance upkeep , which most people driving cars dont believe in. so you go to a junk yard and youll find many quad4/2.4 with 100k miles or less blown up. at least up here you do.

4THGENCAMAROFAN: thank you for posting that link, for some reason i couldnt find it anywhere. maybe i looked in the wrong place though. as for the buzzing that goes on in the morning, it does sound like the ABS gears now that i listened to it, so i will stop worrying about that now lol. also that factory nav with the DVD, i will totally pass on it, OnStar give me nav through the speakers, but only for that free trial period that i get, which i havent activated yet and will save for a rainy day when TOM TOM says she quits.

Below Average Joe: greetings, but im actually not to fond of the place im living right now. i have yet to find a place in ohio thats "enjoyable" to live in.

sjw515: ill let you leave a pic of that to imagination hahaha, its got a bit of extra baby phat to trim off lol

BillBoost37: the water pump on the quad 4 is not bad at all, just line up a spline shaft and you are good to go! its the 2.4 that you have to worry about... that one is a nightmare. at least timing it is easy, they give you the bolts that are perfect size to sneak though those holes in the cam gears with the IDI cover. How convenient. i havent had the "luxury" of doing one on a quad 4, but have done quite a few on the 2.4, that damn tensioner is what gets me, sometimes i cant hear or feel if that damn thing clicked once or twice like its supposed to. if i were to be honest with myself, i think working on things like this made me leave automotive and join the aerospace industry. well, i think maybe flat rate pay was more to blame.

Oh, i forgot to add to my first post, i never added an engine picture, or a picture of that "lazy eye" fog light so here they are:

Very Stock and Unimpressive

As you can see the passenger side is perfect, but the driver side is, for lack of better term, completely "derp-y" or "down and out" literally. If anyone can point me in the direction to fixing that, it would be more than greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)
