Dash Z style Projector Headlight Pictures by Krosenqu

Hey guys/gals. First time poster / long time lurker. Anyways:

Stock (except for these lights): 1998 Gold Grand Prix GT 81,000miles

Installed the Dash-z style projector headlights today (05/15/2010).
Paid $200 shipped.

I haven't done any night / aim testing yet. Only testing for fit. I also haven't hooked up the led's and halos yet. I'll splice them into the fogs eventually so I can use the switch.

So far, I'm disappointed. The fit on the driver side is ok except for the gaps (see post #8 on this) but the fit on the passenger side is off. Stock headlamps are just fine.
I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Before:

After

This gap is here on driver and passenger side:

This is WAY too tight!

You'll have to forgive me for these vids... I was quite grumpy by the time I made them lol. Words such as "fail" and "waahh! I cant do it!" follow:

You guys have these problems or is it just me?

Also, I noticed my driver light is out. It was out with my stock headlamps too. I assumed it was a bulb until I installed these and it was still out. It must be a fuse or wiring someplace but I thought if the fuse blew, all headlights went out. High/low beams on drivers is out but DRLs work. Passenger all works. Any ideas?

*The headlight issue is resolved* <-- Coincidentally, two burned out bulbs. Really strange.

I like the way you set up this review. I never liked those projectors, and i hope you did your research before you bought them. ALL projectors aren't perfect, fitment being the worst issue.

I had the same problem with the corner but it wasnt to big of a deal for me because it isnt that noticable. In your before and after pic were there is a big gap between the light and the bumper seems to be the bumber sagging. I had the same problem it was more noticable on the passenger side than the driver side. What i did was put a piece of cardboard under that dip and wedged it in over the foam under it and it raised it up and made it more level. My bumber also seemed a little tight to the light on the passenger side but i just loosened the bold on top that holds the bumber and just slid it over a little bit and it seemed to fit better.

Yeah, I did my research. They seemed a better bet compared to the spyeder auto ones and I love how they look.

I'm having my electrical system looked at tomorrow by my mechanic. Before I installed the lights, only the DRLs worked with both. The low beams worked on the left (but not the right) and high beams on the right (but not the left). Very strange. I put the stock headlights in for now. I'm debating weather or not to write to customer service about the issues I've presented here. I spent a good wad on these, I'd like them to at least fit and work right!

What do you have on your car in your sig, rocafella2032? Spyders?

sounds like wires were flipped on one side to me....he has stock black headlight housings.....

spyders need some work when you get them to make them fit right and not bounce but after that they are full of pure win :)

Those spyders are pretty slick but I liked the all black dash-z style better. And from what I researched, they had less bounce/fit issues. Guess I was wrong lol.

Here are some more images of my issues. Hopefully this helps others as well that may have the same issues.

Here is the stock outer mounting bracket next to the Dash-Z style headlamp housing:

And here is the problem:

Here is another design problem. This piece on the car is hitting the back of the headlamp housing.

Here is the problem:

As a result of the height problem of the mounting bracket, and the clearance issue above pushing out the headlamp, I get this:

Here is the stock headlamp housing for comparison:

In summary, I'm going to try and return them. And I'm going to be dissapointed if they don't refund the $35 shipping (unfortunately, thats not usually how it works)! 3hrs of my time X(

You got excellent paint by the way.

Yeah, the gold blends all the surface / clear coat scratches quite nicely lol. The car has been in the family since it was brand new in 98. Heated garage and non-frequent use by my stay-at-home mom helped also :) I got the car at 70,000 miles. Its now at 81,000.

mine fit like a glove. sorry yours are not working for you.

You didnt have any of these clearance issues? Does your car look similar to mine? Im trying to figure out if this is my particular car or if the design is bad for all models.

same style car. 97 gtp. mine fit almost as nice as stock lights. very flush and the only gaps is a very small one behind side turn signal, not even enough to wedge a pinky in tho.

I suppose its too much to ask, but do you remember if these pieces were close, or if they were designed differently?

I haven't seen any pics of the headlamp housings that are different than mine. I'm assuming its my car thats different.

has your car ever been in an accident?
Nope, its been babied since the day it was bought new :)

At least, it hasn't been in an accident that I'm aware of... My mom could have bumped somebody and not told us lol. No visible damage anywhere though.

If it was in a crash and the bumper had minor deformities, I think the stock headlamp housings wouldn't fit as perfectly as they do.

Yea those areas hit on mine too. If you were in an accident (like I was with my old GT) then the mounting brackets would have been bent. The headlights are a little pushed in on my old GT.
