Yeah... so I've had my GP for just over a week and I've been reading up like crazy on how to keep it in shape, detail it etc. I mean, it's in fantastic shape already and was detailed when I bought it... I want to keep things up you know? So, that's when the birds around my house (starlings and robins) decide they like MY car as a dumping ground for their sh*t. Literally... I watched them sit on my mirrors and crap all over them... and this morning I see that they have decided to use my rear drivers-side roof corner to crap all over. One. After. The. Other. So much so that they were smearing it all around with their feet... little tri-toed tromps all over my window, roof, down the frame... on the door...
I honestly cannot believe it... besides now knowing how bad it is for my finish, it's just plain damned disgusting having that much covered over my car.

I cleaned it up with some water and a micro towel.. but it's going to just happen again when I get home tonight. It is happening every day!

GRR...

I planned on spending this weekend doing a full paint-detail-wax job on it to get it in proper shape, but man... this is going to be one hell of a battle to keep it like that.

Anyway.... besides going with a car cover, is there anyway to keep the damn birds off your car?

could try an animal repellent of some kind on any surface near where you park the car, like the driveway. We have this stuff at work called Critter Ritter. Its suppose to keep all animals away. maybe put some on an old towel and actually place on the area they like to set on the car for a while to kind of "teach" the birds not to go there. Then just apply it to the drive way area every so often to keep them away. Im not sure how strong the stuff is though. The stuff at work is suppose to be effective for a decent length of time.
 
If you buy a gun and keep on shooting them, they won't come back. Or build a scarecrow in front of where you park the car.
 
ill tell u what will keep them off the car... a semi auto 12 gauge, that'll show em whos boss...:th_gun-rifle::th_chicken:
 
Well... I was thinking I'd sit out with my friends pellet rifle... but I'm not a gun person per se... I'd have to brush up on my marksmanship. Haha.
12 gauge firing around my car roof or mirrors... mmm.... could be a nice recipe for some bodywork and a new paint job!

Do you have bird feed near? Its not like birds just come around..They dont stay just to "chill" there must be a food/water source around! I live in AR believe me! We have TONS of birds!!! My car is in the WIDE open!!! I had that problem cause the lady that lives next to me had bird feeders! I asked her to move them to the back of the apartments and havent had the problem since then! Might wanna look around and see...and if not then those birds are out to get you!!! LOL
 
Paintball gun works too, not even the paint, just shoot the air and it will be enough for them to leave. Do it enough times and they won't come around.
 
Jess could definitely be onto something.
I was having that same problem for about a week, now yesterday I discovered a birds nest being built on top of my garage door motor haha.
Got rid of that and problem solved.
 


Just chop down all the trees near your house...that'll fix it.

Oh...and powerlines too...don't need those.
 
Well, after some research, it appears that Robins, Starlings and Cardinals enjoy looking into mirrors (and dark Black Sapphire Metallic polished surfaces). Well, it's not enjoyment per se, but a territorial thing. I observed a robin jumping from the top of my mirror, to the trim on the door in front of it... fluff up his feathers and freak out then jump to the top of the mirror again. Back and forth... over and over... while continuing to crap all over the mirror and door panel below the window.

Recommendations from others suggest covering the mirrors. This has helped somewhat (at least the towels absorb some of the crap), but they still enjoy trotting along the roof leaving tri-toed crap footprints.

A car cover will probably be a soon purchase for me... I just picked up a bunch of Zaino products and I really don't want to have to fight the damned birds afterward.
