D exhaust ports still essential on turbo?

As the title says, are the D shaped exhaust ports as needed/desired on a turbo car or can the be "rounded" without loss (hopefully gains)?

I did try to search but no luck...

As a side question, 3" straight pipe using turbo as muffler or muffler needed?

You could run the stock heads with zero problems and they'd flow just fine for the most part.

And I'd say you'd want to run a muffler, without one it will be still too loud for daily driving.

I ask for two main reasons: 1) I've seen at least three set of heads come off turbo cars without the D port in the last 6'ish months, 2) I found a set local for cheap and wondering if I should put them on during my turbo install in a week or so?

As for the muffler, I'll try and find a 3" muffler...

Thanks in advance!

So I googled it. The answer for anyone who may search in the future is yes they are still needed. As for why I've seen three set come off with out the shape, somebody thought they were smarter than the countless numbers of engineers who made the cars I guess.
