Customization Help Needed.

Well there was a couple of things I'm trying to do to my Grand Prix on the interior that I need help with.

1) I want to paint the steering wheel chrome part (it's fading) white, along with the chrome where my shifter is.

P1) Well the problem is that first off I don't know what kind of paint to use, second I don't wanna cover the letters or the lights for the shifter but they're to small to cover, any help would be highly appreciated.

2) I want to get my headliner re wrapped in white and the plastic beige pieces that are in between the black and the headliner including the ones by the seat belt..

P2) I don't know where to start with the headliner, and don't know what type of paint to use for the plastic pieces, any help would be highly appreciated.

3) I want to get my interior dome and side lights red to match the lower red lights I just ordered and my dash and display.

P3) I can't find the lights in red and it's beginning to become very irritating. My car is a 2004 btw. Any help would be highly appreciated.

If anyone can help with any of this or has any input period please don't be shy to post.

Well this is all I can help you out with. The inside dome lights and map lights are number 194 for us 04's. Now I haven't put LEDs in or anything like that, but I did just put plain old red 194R blubs in my map lights, and my two lights in the back seats.

I picked those up at either Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, PeP Boys, I just can't remember which one. I was on a search for them and hit all 3 of those stores that day and just happened to see them. Hopes this helps you out some.

If you want the LED's, look on ebay, they have the kits on there to swap you over. As for the painting, they have interior spray for plastic parts. Should be able to find at any auto parts store. Me, I just used a good spray paint, krylon I think, and it has worked fine. Just have to prep your parts good and use some good primer first. If you use any type of protectant on the parts you want to paint, clean them good with some paint thinner or acetone, which might work better. If you don't clean good, your paint will bubble and flake off. Once you get your parts clean, don't touch any areas that you are going to paint because the oil from your hands will cause the same reaction. Unless you know how to replace a headliner, I'd take it to a shop.

Thanks I wrote those numbers down gonna go looking on Wednesday after school. So are the map lights and the rear lights the same? How do I take hte plastic off the back lights?

I'm not really too great at painting (not much experience) but me and a friend of mine are gonna try to go Wednesday and buy some paint and stuff. I'm gonna also buy some vinyl or something for the headliner and see if we can put it in ourselves because I can't seem to find a place that will do it around here.

eBay Motors: RED LED INTERIOR LIGHTS PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GRAND AM (item 120281628445 end time Sep-06-08 23:42:51 PDT)

I also ordered these off eBay, I'm gonna see if I can wire them up to my other lights if not I might just put them up with a switch or something whichever works easier for me.

As soon as I do anything I'll be sure to put some before and after pictures on here. Thanks for the help guys, anyone else got any advice?

With your painting, just make sure you prep good. And when you start spraying, use light even coats. Don't try and cover it all in one shot. Even if it takes you 5 or 6 coats to get it covered good, it's better than having runs. Also, allow good drying time in between each coat, that way by the time the last coat dries, it will be dry all the way through. If you don't, the bottom layers can still be wet with the outside feeling dry and you can end up with finger prints in the paint. For protection, throw about 3 or 4 coats of clear on it.
If you want to tacle the headliner yourself, it's not as hard as it looks. When you get the old material off, get some sand paper and get all the old glue off. Then cut your matetial to where you have about 5 inches of over hang all the way around. Spray the whole headliner with glue and let it tack up for about 5 minutes. Then starting in the center and working towards the back of the board, spray the back of the materialand gently apply pressure at the center working you way to the sides to keep from getting any wrinkles. Do this all the way to the back and then to the front. once it's done, let it sit for a few hours to tack really good and then you can go back and trim all the excess and cut any holes. Let it sit for a good 24 hours and then you can reinstall in the car. Just take your time and be patint with it and you'll have no problems. Just don't put to much pressure when applying the material or the glue will soak through and you'll have hard spots or you'll end up with indentions in it. If you have any questions once you get started, I'll help you anyway I can. I am pretty much on here 24/7. Good luck with it.

I'm gonna need to go shopping for paint in a couple of days. Also I'm thinking of just wrapping the material over the original headliner in case I wanna take it off. Like stapling it, would that be okay?

I wouldn't staple it, you'll have more problems than what it's worth and would look pretty tacky. You won't have the form of the head liner and would look half @$$ed. Good thought though, but just won't work like you would hope. If you want to do it, go ahead and do it the right way, you'll be more pleased in the end. But, that's just my opinion.

stkks, any idea where I can get all the interior lights in red and the turn signal. Also for the Ultra Silver Stars I can only find them for the headlights (had them on my old GP) any idea on where to get those too?

I bought my SilverStar Ultras at Advanced Auto, both Low and High Beam bulbs. As for the 194 bulbs, I believe I got those at either PepBoys, Advanced Auto, or Auto Zone. I want to say PepBoys though, remember they are just regular red bulbs not LED or anything. I was on a mission that day and went to all 3 stores looking for red bulbs. So that would be where I would start.

Where can I find the lower fog light (not turn signal) in Ultra SilverStar?

They only make the Ultras for the headlights. The list that I provided on page 1 shows all of what Sylvania offers. And for their Ultras it is only headlights, I too wish they had foglights in Ultras. I went with just the regular 898 foglight. Maybe one day they will offer it.
