Craigslist Part Squatters

Let me preface this by saying that I believe in the free market. People can sell their possessions for whatever price they want to ask. That said...

You ever get any local people that want a silly price for their performance parts that is well above market value, then relist the parts indefinitely and get indignant if you offer them something less than they asked for?

I have a local guy who put out a blown LSJ (bottom end destroyed, including oil pan) over a year ago. He couldn't get anyone to buy the whole blown motor for what he was asking. He even had it on ebay for some time, no buyer. So after watching it sit for a few months, I offered about 20% below his asking price, which he wouldn't take or suggest a counter-offer on. Fast forward a year, he takes apart the motor and puts up the supercharger "kit" parts for considerably more than he was selling the whole motor for before, and wants darn near a grand for the whole blown LSJ now. Um....what?

Some people are weird. When I list my junk, I want it gone. I list it for what I would likely pay, and it's usually gone within a couple days.

I always wonder the same thing. You see items priced 200% above market value for sale for months and months and months on end. What is the point of listing an item if you will never sell it? Ebay, Amazon, CL, etc.... Or the ones that post the same thing 5 times.....

Like Brandon, if I take something apart...It needs to go and go fast. There's other folks that'll wait years for the right sucker to pop up and buy their seriously overpriced parts. Trust me... they either get it or sit on parts for years.

So apparently he increased the price again... what is wrong with this dude? Maybe he's getting a lot of emails suggesting he lowers his price, so he's "punishing" everyone by raising it? Like, that'll teach everyone? Lol. I dunno.

I've been half-heartedly looking to mildly supercharge my L61, but not for the kind of prices he's asking.

I recently sold my Generac generator on CL, I clearly stated the condition of the generator in the description, along with four high quality photos. The very first email response I get asks me "what kind of condition is it in?"....wtf

Maybe his old lady is on his ass to sell the stuff and get the mess out of the yard/garage, but he doesn't really want to let it go. So he shows her the adds he's posting online to shut her up. :th_winking::th_winking:

So apparently this guy has other overpriced parts/vehicles on cl, quite a stockpile. Turns out he runs an auto repair business. Suppose that explains the inflated prices of parts.

So, if his business accidentally goes up in flames can he claim a bazillion dollars in losses by showing his adds? ;) ;)

They were selling dope out of a local pawn shop. All the items for sale were stickered at more than New Retail. They didn't want them to sell, because they would have to pay more to buy more crap not to sell. They just wanted to look like a real business. Places like that list crap on CL and FB to look good.

I thought this was totally about something different. See, where I'm at, we have a local fb 3800 chapter. One time, absolutely %100 for sure, a couple of the younger guys found a car at a local yard. I expressed interest, but it was only hitting about 0 degrees during the warmest part of the day.

So come Saturday morning, I'm brought my happy ass out there after getting the family up at 6am ..the cars gone through and the hood I was asking about was ruined.

Fast forward to now. I asked that same group where to buy used wheels. Got crickets from everyone.

12 hours later I had some 17x7's off CL (no thanks to them). Naturally, I posted them up like "look what I found!"

Sure, I get one guy kinda makes his living going around the good spots in the state. But, I really thought that would be like, only one person. Their silence is indicative of "part squatter" behavior. Can pretty much feel the anonymity from haters with envy. And for what.. some stock rims?

Anyway, back to it. Thanks for letting me share and vent a little, lol. :th_lickface:
