Coolant temp sensor question

TEK310

New member
is the coolant temp sensor threads supposed to be showing at all? sensor does not want to screw all the way in. is the nut flush with the lower intake manifold?

my temp gauge was reading about 210 today when i have a 180 t-stat, thinking underhood temps may be throwing off reading.

It's an NPT (tapered) thread. If you get 3 or 4 threads in your OK. Make sure the manufacturer has a sealant on the threads. If not, use some Teflon tape or plumbers sealant.

Yes, it's ok to show some thread. Mine is like that as well. And 210 is well within the limit on temps. Unless you're tuned for that 180* stat then it's not doing a lot as the fans are still programmed to come on around 210-220 or so.

i think my fans are not running as fast as they should be.

im used to fans being pretty loud and blowing massive amounts of air.

my fans just seem to be running on low speed it seems

the fans have a high and low setting based on how hot the coolant gets. if you arent tuned for the 180 tstat then it wont turn on any sooner. with the 180 it will take a little longer to get up to the 226 or something like that for the high fans to come on.
