coolant problem

Hello,

How common is it for the upper intake to crack? I have a coolant leak and it looks like it is coming from around the throttle body. some is running down the transmission and also is pooling somewhat on the lower intake by the injectors. also the temp never seems to go over 160 since ive owned the car. thermostat stuck open? any help is appreciated

i so was talkin to my freinds today and come to find out, they had coolant system pressure tester. pumped it up and the gasket to the throttle body is bad. started spittin out from between the mating surfaces. so i guess i need some gaskets... if there is cracks in the plenum, are they pretty obvious or hard to see and really need to look it over good?

Once you pull the throttle body to replace that gasket you will probably find that the passages on the bottom of the UIM are shot. Methinks you will be replacing the UIM shortly, but hey you may get lucky.

Cracks in the UIM can be hard to spot because they can close up when it's cooled off. Usually the only way I can spot it is to look for a trail of dried up coolant on the UIM somewhere. If you see this, then the crack is somewhere near it.

yeah, i pulled it apart today and shes all kinds of cracked apart there. like peices broken off. also, when i was pulling it apart i pulled the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and it was spilling fuel. im guessing its not supposed to do that, lol. is that a common problem? im guessing thats why sometimes when i would start it, it would die right away, then i restart it and it runs.

Yep, time for a new UIM and a new fuel pressure regulator. There should be no gas in there if you remove that vac. line.
