coolant fan problems

I have a 06 Grand prix 3.8 natural automatic. My coolant fans only run when the a/c is on and not when its getting hot. I have replaced all three relays and by reading some of the posts I guess my next step is the coolant temp sensor. Thanks for any help on this one.
