Coolant fan only works with A/C on

I got the car up to 210 and nothing happened, I then tapped on the temp sensor and the fans started working. Huh?
Thanks for your help on this one. Hope the new sensor is cheap.

its cheap. if you hooked a scanner too it, you would see the temperature probably reading something crazy low, thats why its not kicking the fans on. your gauge is gonna work though, since its a 3 wire sensor, one goes to the gauge, one goes to the computer.
