converting tranny cooler lines from 1st design to 2nd design

Is this possible? I've read that all you have to do is change the fittings on the rad and tranny cooler inlets/outlets, and then you could use the 2nd design lines. However, that was from one source and no one verified it. 04 impy with the 4t65e-hd. Built in january of 04 so it has the 1st design lines currently.

TEP informed me the lines are teh same between designs, and that the only difference is the threaded connectors? Odd, but I'lll have to get eth 2nd design connectors I guess and be happy with life.
 
yeah..unsure what other design you think you have. I've seen three versions of lines.

97 threaded at both radiator and trans
98 threaded at trans and click at radiator
99+ Click at both radiator and trans.

For example, look at part#s 15264589/15264588, and 20793004/20793005 on rockauto (this shows up on other sites too). An eample for teh 20793004: description says "HOSE,TRANS FLUID CLR INL 1ST DESIGN; USE ON VEH BUILT PRIOR TO 2/1/04-2ND DES 15264588" etc..

There are two different "designs" Bill. I've got an 04 GTP and when I had to order a cooler line the dealer asked me if it was the first or second design. I ended up giving them my VIN and since my 04 was built in 03 it had the first design lines. Sometime in 04 there was a switch of some sort.

Which was 2/1/04 as far as I can tell, so that's why i'm just trying to find out if it's just the fittings that are different and can be swapped or if there is something more involved.
 


Pretty sure it's just the fittings. Don't quote me though, I have no idea if they're interchangeable
 
I had something similar trying to do the lines on my 97 Bonneville. It was all about the production date and in my case it came down to some small revision in the lines..like an extra 3/8" in length that had no effect overall.
 


Far as I can tell. GM only made one part number for that fitting that I can find. therefore if it's a clicker...one of the fittings has the checkerball in it.

Are you sure there's only one? There's 4 different ones on rockauto :|

Then there's 4 different part numbers for the threaded connectors for '1st design' ( 24213958, 19125677, 24233366, 52481097 ) and '2nd design' ( 24236555, 24229978, 24236554 )

1097 and 3366 are the radiator side of the cooler lines.

958 and 677 are likely one supply and one return. I was talking about the supply with the checkball only. You are getting pretty technical and that's good for knowledge/sharing etc. However if you go see your dealer with your vin, he's going to supply you with a single part number for supply and a single for return that screw into the transmission. Which likely correspond to 958 and 677 or a superceding part number for each.

Actually..if you'd be willing to post your VIN, we can have dealership guy TLSheff run it and give you the correct part for the car.

Wouldn't his computer just pull up the 1st design parts?
 
You would be amazed what I can do with my computer. But I do need the VIN so I can narrow down what you have so I know where to go for the 2nd design.

Ok, because I'm just awesome at my job... I figured it out.

Not Do-Able. :(

At least not EASILY Do-Able. It is early still for me, and I'm having a off day so maybe I am reading the bulletins wrong. I am posting them, in case I am... but it looks to me the fittings are a different size so you would have to change the tanks/radiator/get an adapter? :th_scratchhead: I'm sure there is something that can be done, but your call. If you need more help on this, just let me know.
