Coil Pack Bracket Removal

Rather B Blown

New member
Im trying to do my valve cover gaskets, and the cover is loose, but i cant take it off until i get the coil bracket off. The bolt holding the bracket on is like 3 inches long, and i dont have a deep enough socket to get on the nut. the only thing i can think of is cutting the bolt a bit so i can get a socket on it. Any input is greatly appreciated

I used an combination wrench. With the belt off you should have enough room to turn it. The top one will have 2 nuts if i remember correctly. One holds the ground wire in place.

I can get a deep socket on mine. Just put the socket on and then put the ratchet on the socket. The ratchet will not go all the way in the socket, but it will still work.

thanks everybody. i already got the bolt off that holds the ground wire, its the other one that seems impossible. the one under the coil packs beside the tensioner. its like 3 inches long and the nut is at the very back, so i would need a suuuuper long socket to get on it. and theres not enough room to get a wrench in there. looks like it has a torx head on it. i reallly need some help. ugh im so frustrated

if u use a wrench, remove the other stud first, the one that you took the tensioner off of, then you can get the wrech in there.

i know what you mean, but it doesnt give enough room at all. my deep sockets are like 2 inches long, and the bolt is like 3. if i were to put the socket on the nut, the end of the bolt would be sticking through the other end of the socket lol. i feel like a retard cause no one seems to have had this problem. ive been working on cars for freaking ten years and not been stumped like this before haha

ok thanks everybody for the help. i finally got the bolt off by using a 5/8 spark plug socket, cause it was about a 1/2 inch longer than my other deep sockets, and i got the bracket loose, but i cant get it off because theres a huge pack of wires in front of it. i tried to roll the wires under the bracket, but they just wont move anywhere. any ideas?

Here's a suggestion. Once you get the bracket off take the stud that had that nut out and replace it with just a bolt. That way you don't have to deal with it again.

This thread is old, but I ran into this same problem today and want to share a solution for any others that may come this way in the future. I was using Harbor Freight Quinn 15mm deep socket with 3/8" drive and it alone could slide all the was down the extended bolt threads to reach the nut. However with the socket wrench attached, the socket was just a bit too short to reach the nut. Then tried HF 15mm deep socket impact with 1/2" drive and the socket bore hole was too narrow for the extended bolt thread. Another trip to HF to check out the Quinn metric deep sockets set with 1/2" drive and the 15mm socket fit perfectly.
