cobalt intercooler

hello again, so i found a guy neat me demodding his cobalt ss, he has all the parts for his a2w intercooler for his car except the except the intercooler core. my question is will the pump, heat-exchanger, ect work on my 99 gtp?

even if the did work, I wouldn't want them because they are built for a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder. the supercharger on the cobalt is 62 cc's while the supercharger on the grand prix is 90 cc's, so like I said, even if it would work, it may not do enough to justify to cost and labor to install. it would definitely not be a simple bolt on either because both cars are different.
 
It depends on which heat exchanger and which pump he is selling. Technically it would work but it's small than the 3800 heat exchangers but could be used with a short stack Intercooler. Also some of the mounting tabs wouldn't be in the right place also.

The size of the blower shouldn't really have an impact on FMHE size. I would be worried about the FMHE fitting though, since I think the ones ZZP sells are about 6" wider than the GP ones.

I would probably pass on the deal though. A new FMHE from ZZP that you know will fit and flow is $170 and a new bosch pump is $90.

Right, but that's one of those things where you go as big as you can fit, but most FMHE are relatively the same size (with some exceptions) and flow about the same (Single pass and double pass is obviously the big difference). If you can get something less expensive than ZZP, I would usually say go for it. I just don't think the cobalt one would easily fit from side to side.

cubic inches not cubic centimeters

what are the specs for the pump v. say a mustang cobra IC pump?
if you can flow about 3 to 5 gpm you'd be OK with a small IC core.
Intercooling is all about volume, if you have more liquid you can absorb and dissipate more heat.
 
I was just tearing into a Saturn Ion yesterday and the pump for the heat exchanger is larger than most of the other bosch pumps the heat exchanger is pretty small it's only about 20" square and about 3/4" thick at the tanks so yeah it's prrtty small.

Honestly, all those pumps suck, and is one of the huge main drawbacks to our intercooler systems. A good pump will cost a couple hundred dollars.
 
im happy with my 3.4" pulley, headers, wizair intake, and box tune. would only take that next step on a "stole it" kind of deal. my ws6 should be close to 600whp by spring, just dont want any slow cars in my driveway...
 
Convert that GTP to ethanol and toss some 60lb injectors in it. Do a pump rewire. Get a 3.0". Let it eat sh1t. Should make more power than the IC setup.
