was driving my regal to work the other day and all of a sudden it jus dies without warning and did not restart apon dieing one the side of the road my noob mistake of running batt dead while i was waiting for my buddy to tow it home i left key on havent really had time to check it out was thinking the cat maybe i just put a motor in but the car was sitting for over a year at a farm i was told that the cat could be clogged plz any help is great

well I guess it could be the cat. Try and restart it... The cat being clogged should let it start and then start having problems when you put a load on it. The other way to test if the cat is clogged is to unhook your upstream O2 sensor and hook a compression gauge there and see how much PSI you get as back pressure... Anything over 1 PSI is bad.

start with the basics, fuel, and spark. check for both.
if it sat for a year could be in need of a tune up as well. wires go bad if being used or not after a year. and change the oil if you have not already, oil breaks down just sitting in the engine.
and it could be the cat, but like iceman said, most of the time they will start and have no power, clogged cat is like bananas or a potato jammed in the tail pipe.

I normally lean toward the crank sensor when cars just die at random on the road. But it could be something different, so testing is key.

ok well it has new wires i just did a 3800 top swap to this regal it i bought with blown motor and top swaped a 3800 and droped in but i did check the vavle on the fuel rail ther is some presure there well some fuel came out whe car was off crank sensor huh thats behind the harmonic?

but are you getting a spark? at all?
bad icm, or coils, maybe clean the icm. if your not getting a spark. free things to check.
and yeah crank sensor is behind the harmonic balancer. pull it off and its right there.
