Climate Control HVAC Console Burned Out Bulbs

Hey all,

New to the forum, but I've had my GTP for about 5 years now. Recently, all the backlighting on my climate control console went out and I'm going to replace with LEDs. I'm curious to know if anyone has disassembled their climate control console to replace the bulbs and if there are pics or tips anywhere. I searched for some time and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Thanks in advance! :th_thumbsup-wink:

P.S. I have the digital climate control...

tried to do the same. i have a picture i believe somewhere of mine torn apart cuz i was modding it to fit a custom dash im building. so the pics are hvac specific, but maybe it'll help fiure out the bulbs if you havent tore into it yet. as far as the LED, the bulbs are tiny so you'll have to get resistors, kinda a pain in the a**. but if you go through with it, get some pictures up. I got LED 194's in my gauge cluster and they are SO much nicer, curious to see the climate control. but ill look for at least that pic. if it'll help.

Hey thanks man. Another GP owner did his and gave me some pointers, but he didn't take any pics. I have the LED's ready to go and will get some resistors. I'm also going to make the fog light switch use LED's and found a good write-up for that one. I'm excited; it should look pretty good, I think.

Got this done over the weekend. What a PITA. My father-in-law is an experienced electronics repairman so I had him do all the soldering.

Here's the fog light switch with LED's:

It turned out okay, but not like I was hoping. The foglight switch is fine, but that blue LED I put in a freaking bright. It's not too big a deal because I can rig something to dim it down and then it will be perfect. When I did that mod I rewired it in anticipation for the fogs on with highbeams mod so the switch will still work once that is done.

The HVAC system looks alright but is dimmer than stock. The picture looks worse than it really is in person. The pain about LED's is that they don't have very good 360 degree luminance. Oh well. I'm going to leave it as is for a while and see how much it bugs me. If it really gets to me I'll maybe try some different LED's or something.

I'm so sorry I forgot to take pics of the process! I was really kicking myself when I realized I forgot to do that. I just got so in to getting the job done that I totally spaced it. The fog-light switch wasn't that bad, but the climate controls would be very difficult for anyone who doesn't have some level of electronics and soldering experience, IMO.
