Chugging,surging

Lately i noticed when my car is warm or the sun is beating down on it and i start it, it chugs and the tach surges between 500 and 1100 rpm for about 5-10 seconds.While its doing that I smell a strong odor of fuel.Then it idles normal again.What the hell could this be?It happens intermitently. Car is 2001 Gt with 126k miles.Recently changed fuel filter,cleaned throttle body, recent oil change.Im thinking either injectors,fuel pump,or maybe evap sysem.I have P0440 code.Any help or ideas.thanks :confused:
 


The EVAP system deals with fuel vapors, hence the smell. Gotta have a leak somewhere I would think, but I'm not experienced in this area. Check for leaks by spraying carb cleaner over the hoses while it's idling and see if there's a change in the idle. This may let you know where the leak is. May be at the throttle body?

Someone with more experience in this will chime in soon.
