Chipping paint and rust under the stock spoiler

I have heard that a common problem with stock spoilers is that the paint chips off and it starts to rust out underneath. I have had this problem with my car. Here's what I did to fix it. After carefully removing the bolts that hold the spoiler on, 4 of 6 were rusty, I noticed there was alot of dirt that had been there long enough to start eating the paint underneath, giving it a pitted look. There was also one giant rust spot near the corner. I took 300 grit sandpaper and sanded the entire area, taking care to remove as much rust as possible. Followed by 800 and 2000 grit. Then once clean and dry, I sprayed on 4 coats of anti-rust black gloss paint. While that was drying, I cleaned up the spoiler and put 1" wide by 1/8" deep black foam tape around the edge. I was careful to make sure it stayed flat around the corners, the idea being here is to create a good seal that won't allow water to get in there again. Then, I re-attached it back on to the trunk lid. I didn't take any pictures when I did this but it looks great now. I was tempted to leave the spoiler off and just cover up the bolt holes, kinda had a unique look. Any ideas, comments?
