Stopped by this guys house because there has been a GTP sitting in the yard for about 6 months now if not longer, and boy... this car is in rough shape. I kinda feel sorry for it and want to give it a new life and home haha.

I looked over the outside and its decent but kinda rough, dents, scratches foggy heads lights and tails. Interior is a whole diff story. One of the windows is "off track" is what the guy said, but I was thinking maybe the window motor went out. So the inside is pretty bad because we had alot of snow and rain. Theres standing water everywhere and smell horrible. Not to mention it looks like it has been used as a dumpster its whole life.

Now to the engine... The guy told me it was a fresh rebuild on the engine and trans. So I say ok pull the oil dip stick out and its black as coal. Looks like it hasnt been changed in about 5 yrs and smells like gas. I pulled the dip stick out of the trans and I about **** myself. There was fluid half way up the dip stick and was brown almost a chocolate milk color and smelled burnt. He also said the gear shifter was stuck and wouldnt budge. hmmm...

Now I know he is bs me on the rebuild on the trans and the engine, or someone didnt do a very good ****ing job at both, IDK
I thought about offering him $500 for it, and using it as another project but Im kinda leary about it.

Do you guys think the trans is toast? Im thinkin maybe coolant got into it but not sure. He said it wouldnt start because it needed a battery, but Im thinking maybe it wont start at all. Which Im fine with. I like a good challenge.

What are your guys thoughts on it?

BTW its a 2002 with 129,000 on it

It sounds like you could get more than $500 if you were to part it out, so you wouldn't really be losing anything.

Check car-part.com and see what a new motor/trans in your area would cost and go from there.

Well.. there really wouldnt be anything to part out. The inside is nasty with mold and water everywhere. The doors, fenders and hood all have either a big ass dent or is scrathced, and who knows about the motor and trans. I was just thinking about buying it, going to the junk yard and buying motor and trans, and clean the hell out of it. Then maybe try to resell it

In that case, for $500, you probably wouldn't turn enough profit to make it worth your time. Offer what a junkyard would pay for the car, usually around here if you drop it off thats $300-$350 max. If it has mold under the carpets, it will take a long long time to get that out.

I would say buy it, Gut it, and make it a racecar. Drop in a built motor and trans and be done with it!

I wouldnt mind trying to get it back in running order. I have all the time in the world right now. Just lookin for somethin to keep me busy for awhile since Im not going any farther with my gp and still havent quite decided what else to do with the ta.

But do you guys think coolant got in the trans from the way I described?

I might go back and offer him 200 buck and see what he says

If you want a huge money pit that wont give you much in return, get that. you could spend thousands just getting it into the condition of a regular gp with that many miles.

Walk away from this man. I've seen better condition GP's in the junk yard. Mold,Mildew, rotten nasty smell is not something you want to mess with inside of a car. Just think if its that bad, what about the air ducts inside the vehicle, all that nasty **** inside.

Just walk away from it.

Yea I never really thought about how hard it would be to get the smell and mildew out.
Thanks guys for talking me out of a mistake, I really appreciate it
