Charging Sytem Failure Warning

Okay, so the other day I was just driving when I hear that ding you never want to hear. I look over and it flashes "Charging System Failure". Now the main question is, what all could this be? I have left it on the battery voltage and have watched it fluctuate anywhere from 14.9 volts to under 12.5... that amount of fluctuation can't be normal if everything is running correctly could it? What could be causing the problem?

Did you install ZZP's "voltage booster?"

Edit: For those that thought I was suggesting a fix, the voltage booster will often set off the charging system failure alert.

nope, car is bone stock... it has had 30k miles put on it since January. Only thing that is different is no front plate after that deer, and that guy backing into me at McDonald's.

Look into the jumper box under the red cap on the pass side. I had the same problem a while ago and the darn nut was loose. I looked at everything and that slipped my mind.. After some bad words and some scratching of the head.. Simple!! I felt soooo stupid.. Wow!!

First instinct was to jump under the hood and check for any corrosion on the terminals of the battery, just because that had been the problem in any of the other cars that went out. There was a little bit of corrosion that I got off pretty much by blowing on it, but the cables were secure.

Mine came on 3 times in 1 week before my battery pooched soon after the cold weather hit.
There is no putting it off till later if your car won't start.

That's the thi, my car has been starting just fine. Its been running fine, it's just the battery voltage keeps fluctuating. And to be fair I did scrub the terminals, I was just trying to point out how little was actually on there lol
