Changing the steering wheel to aftermarket?

So I dont know about you guys but I absolutley hate the factory steering wheel in my 1998 GP GT its ugly bulky and I cant even use the stupid audio controls because I have a aftermarket stereo installed. Oh and not to mention the air bag I hate those things so much. Now what would be required in order for me to take my old steering wheel off and not making the air bag deploy and I just but the conversion hub and im good right?

The wheel controls can be used with aftermarket radios. It's a simple thing to do.

GM FSM states you should disconnect power to the car and then wait 45 minutes before servicing the airbag with a static strap on your wrist. Whenever I pull a bag, I ensure I'm not in it's path.

Yeah I bought my Kenwood with steering wheel controls and bought the SWIC adapter off of a guy on here, and my steering wheel controls work just fine. And the airbags only deploy with a certain velocity that is detected. My mom has rearended two people, (one her fault the other not) at 20mph or more and no airbag deployed because the velocity wasnt high enough. And my friend totaled his car when he went into a ditch, in an 03 GP and no airbag deployment.
And i would take burns over being dead or a vegetable.

Idk I was in a accident about a year ago in my s10 and it knocked me unconcious lol. I suppose you can say Im a little scared of them now due to that but I will have to look bill thanks for the info guys!

I've replaced well over 100 airbags at work over the past few years. Im not too entirely scared of them Most connectors have a Ground-Out plate that touches them pins when disconnected... My biggest fear is when disconnecting or reconnecting. Then when I turn the key on the first time I lean out of the way.

I'd be curious to find out about a different steering wheel too. I like all the guys with the quick release hubs.

Or you get in a small collision and it knocks you out and leaves burn marks up and down you arm.
