car wont start right away .

ok i have a slight problem with 2 different cars but seen to have the same problem ..
first one is my car its a 2002 grand prix with a 3.1 it wont do it every time but sometimes when i get into the car hot and try to start it . it just turns over and wont fire off . if i turn the key on and off it will start right up . it does not do it all the time and there is no engine light or codes ..
the second car is a 2000 grand am with a 2.4 this is my ex girls car i have not look at it yet but she says that it is doing just about the same thing it sometimes wont fire off but cycle the key and it runs like a top . she said that the engine light is going on and off the last few days while driving ,but the starting issue has been happening on and off for about 2 weeks . any help will help i will be scanning her car to see what it says but an engine light on and off sounds like an o2 sensor to me .

Very common problem and I don't think there has been anything to fix this.

Not likely the same problem, it's hard to say what the problem is with her car. Go ahead and scan it and see what it says.

THANKS for the heads up well i checked her car today there where no engine lights it was a . service vehicle soon light , NOT the service engine soon light .. i have done some reading and it looks like it might be linked to a exterior bulb being out ? she was in a rush so i will check better tomorrow when i have it for alittle longer . i wanted to just scan it and see what i needed to get . but since there is no codes i guess i need to check the lights and see . the vehicle book said it could be linked to a DRL or ALR malfunction . i know what DRL is but not ALR ?
