Car won't start moving from a stop until 3k rpm

Pretty much all the info my sister gave me. She has an 01 Impala with the 3.8. Funny thing is that I had the car last week and the trans was shifting amazingly and now apparently it doesnt wasnt to even start moving until she hits 3k. So is this a torque converter issue? or is it something else?

Tell her to do this when it's happening. If it won't go, keep your foot off the gas, and put the gear selector in 1 and see if it goes right away. Also I'm assuming if she put it in reverse it does the same thing? If it goes right away, or much sooner in 1 than D, the issue may be an input clutch piston not sealing properly.(putting it in 1 increases line pressure) It's a somewhat common issue on 4t65e's but it's so weird how I see it most on impalas when they're really all the same.

The emergency brake is off right?

I know it sounds dumb, but I have seen this many times.

You'd still be able to go if the parking brake is on, or at least you'd do a burnout.

It's a somewhat common issue on 4t65e's but it's so weird how I see it most on impalas when they're really all the same.

And the Impala guys post much more about this than any other trans issue. Recently I've picked up 3-4 Impalas.. all trans swaps based on the piston.

Yeah that's really odd. They are the same, besides the non hd, hd, and gxp version. Still mostly the same parts, and probably the exact same piston/seals.
