Car won't do anything when key is turned in ignition

I have a 97 GTP that a couple months ago had the parking lights on but the lights were off so it drained my battery but after a charge everything was fine. Well now the other night when I put key in ignition it does the dinging and the battery, gas, temp and other helper lights turn on but as soon as I go to turn it over the power is gone totally. Has this happened to anyone else and can anyone help? Thanks

Start with checking the battery connections, make sure they are clean, if they are clean then I would start with a new battery.
 
Thanks for the quick reply. I just replaced the battery between 1-2 years ago do you think it could be bad that quick? Thanks
 
x2 on new battery...when you drain one to completly dead like you did in your case with the lights, it drastically reduces the life of a battery
 
Batteries can die whenever they want, I've seen batteries last two years or like the one in my Trans Am lasted 7. Interstates are the best.
