Car randomly shuts off when high beams are turned on?

2005 GTP. Sometimes when the high beams are turned on the headlights go out completely, but when the switch is operated again the low beams answer immediately. And on very rare occasions, the car shuts off completely. When this occurs, nothing works, and all gauges and lights are off. After cycling the ignition to off and back on, the car will start and run fine.
As an additional note: It has been having trouble with the traction control and ABS throwing faults. Not sure how they could be related, but I would like to provide all the information I can.
With the car shutting off completely, it sounds like something is shorting out the BCM, but I'm not sure where to start. I am inclined to 12V electronics, but am not a mechanic, and don't know anything about these cars.
I am wondering if this could be caused by the ignition switch or the multi switch on the column.

Thanks for any support the team can give me.

I had this happen in my 97 and it was the ignition switch, just had to replace it. The only thing different for me was the car wouldn't shut off like yours sounds to be doing. That might be do to a lose ground wire somewhere. Sorry I don't have more info for you but the electronics side of things isn't my strong point.

ignition switch is very likely but ive been seeing lots of ground fault issues with the newer vehicles....data bus communication seems to be the biggest hit as each computer is seeing different voltages so youll end up with alot of comm errors...so theres that possibility

i cant wait to see the odd glitches that occur when all these 2010+ cars start seeing salt corrosion issues

Thanks guys! That's along the same lines that I was thinking.
Have you ever heard of anyone testing the current draw through the switch to verify if it is malfunctioning?
Is there a corresponding harness that I should change when changing the switch?
Will I be able to use the same lock cylinder with the new ignition switch?
Will the BCM need to be programed for the new switch to dis-arm the security?

Thanks for the quick replies. I know how busy everyone is but its cool to see people take time out of their day to help out others that they don't even know. Good forum communities are awesome!
