Car pulses at idle like a cam

So here recently my car is pulsing at idle when I open the hood I can a fast ticking noise and then the sound of the car retarding the timing. I pulled codes and the only code I got was that the car was running to lean which was code P0171 I feel like thats a really generic code. My car is a 1998 grand prix GT N/A 3.8 Series II. The only modifications I have done to it is a cold air intake and I replaced the resonator with a Cherry Bomb glass pack. Oh and the MAF is hooked up to the CAI any help please?

well the original chassis miles is 298k but the engine was rebuilt awhile back so I would say that it has 100k at the most.

no tuning has been done. I do not no how to tune nor do I know where to get that done at any help is appreciated!

My advice would be to go back to the stock MAF and see if the code continues. Then get into the chat here and find someone who is in your area that tunes. My GUESS is that's your problem. But it's just a guess

dont you mean the ait sensor in in the intake tube? i dont see a maf, just the wires to a ait.

you maf should be sitting on top of the TB, under the engine cover.

if you do have a maf on the other side of the tube, you may want to put that back the way it should be if you cant tune it.

i did my lim today and busted a vac line, the idle was jumping 150 to 200 rpm's, up and down. wanted to stall out, head lights got dim when in gear at idle.

get a can a carb cleaner, and spray all the lines and line ends, when the idle jumps up when you spray, the leak is in that area. just found mine like that tonight.

Where did it end up being at?

i broke the T under my snout. and the line on the front (bumper side) of the TB, it goes to the back of the engine, it snapped where it bends, it lays under the wire harness that runs front to back and lays on the sc.

pretty sure im picking up a set of T's and new rubber vac lines. its all so brittle, you look at it hard it breaks.

i can pull the vac line from the tbody to the evap and get the cam affect. no other line gives me the "cam".

Will have to check these tommoro! I replaced my fuel filter today hoping that was part of the problem and it wasnt but I needed to replace it anyways so no worries lol.
