Car is in the garage getting ready for ISS! UPDATE 5/30

Today I got a lot of the rear buttoned up. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress.

It should make for quick, MESS FREE oil changes. I'll tell you what though, at this point it's just a royal PITA getting the right fittings at the block adapter to keep the lines away from the half shaft. I think I finally got it though.

BTW, that filter is HUGE compared to the stock filter!
 
I hear ya. I have a dual filter up front but didnt use the -AN lines. But I plan on changing that when the car goes back together. I'll have some pretty SS braided lines and so forth.

Take some pics when you get it all back together, Id like to see how it turns out.
 


Today I added a bumper reservoir for the intercooler. 1.5" PVC pipe all the way through. It should hold at least 48oz I'm guessing.

Only 48oz? I would have thought more. But thats 1.5qts, so with regards to an intercooler, thats not bad.

VERY interesting idea Vinnie, its that kind of innovation I like seeing in the community.
 


I can't claim to be the first one, I stole the idea from the OTHER forum. I'm pretty sure I'm number 2 though.

I'm only guessing on the 48oz. I have no way of knowing with out doing the math.

4" of 1.5"ID pipe. How much liquid will that hold? Then add about 8oz or so for the elbows.
 
Well thats 28.2 cubic inches which will hold only about 16 fluid ounces. Add about 8 oz for the elbows and that puts you at 24 fl. oz.

That pipe looks a lot longer than 4 inches though.
 
Vinnie, can I ask a favor of you? You are using one of those cylindrical transmission fluid coolers I have been wanting to use. Can you take some detailed pictures of how you have that all set up? You dont have to post them here unless you want to, you can email them to me. How long is that cooler, what kind of fittings, all the good stuff.
 
I made a typo, it's 4' but 54" to be exact. And the cooler is from ebay but I can take pics in the morning. Actually, I think I have some on photobucket....

I had taken some measurements and I was certain that an 18" cooler would fit, but I was unsure if a 24" one would fit, so thats good info. I remember emailing the guy that sells those and asked if I could plumb two of them together in series and he did not see any reason why it would not work but had not known anyone that had done that.

Vinnie have you peeked to see whats inside those things? Is it just a hollow tube or does it run through tubing of some sort. Im just curious as to how a single cooler like the one you have would keep the fluid cool enough. I know there is a lot of surface area with the fins and all

Anyway, thanks for all your help and the patience with all my questions. Im going to see if I can do the math on your new numbers of the pipes.
 
Okay, so you say its 1.5" in diameter, so that would be 0.75" radius. So working with that number and a 54" length we get a 95.5 cu. in. volume. Do the math to determine how much a 95.5cu. in. volume will hold in liquid measurement and you come up with 55 fl. oz. Thats approaching two quarts.
 
It's really a simple design it looked like, just a hollow tube. I think it may work more efficient if its the flow through style instead of the inlet and outlet being on the same side like mine but I didn't want hoses running everywhere so I took a shot. I haven't driven the car since it was installed so here's hoping it works. As for doing 2 together, I can't see why it wouldn't work but thats more hose you have to worry about.

55oz! So with the elbows there's about an extra 1/2 gallon of fluid in there now. Thanks for doing the math for me. It really was well worth it then for the $20 it cost to make!
 
Oh yeah, I didnt take into account the elbows, so yeah, you might well have two quarts extra there.

As for the coolers, I was considering the flow through design. I was thinking putting them side by side and then at one end just a short piece of hose to jump the fluid from one cooler to the next. That way my hoses would still be at one end like yours.

When you get it running and drive it some, let me/us know how the temps do. Im kinda fanatical about keeping tranny fluid temps low but if one cooler is enough then I may go that route instead.
