Car Doesn't Seem To Want To Start

Hey guys I have a 97 Grand Prix GT, have had it several years and it's been a great car. Yesterday morning I went out and started it to defrost it and when I went back out it had died. When I tried to restart it it would crank over and almost seemed to start but would just sputter and go back to cranking. I thought I would start at the easiest solution so I changed the fuel filter tonight because it hadn't been done for a while but that didn't seem to do the trick so I figure I probably need a new fuel pump, feel free to suggest other things if you think I'm on the wrong track. Anyway assuming I do need a new pump I had them price me one at the parts store here and they said it was $240 and there were 2 different types. I was looking online and seen them much cheaper depending on how much of the assembly I'd need, not sure if I need the complete assembly or just the pump. Thanks guys I appreciate any help you can give me here.

to test your theory.. have someone spray carb cleaner or TB cleaner or brake cleaner into the TB while you crank it..

It's more of a quick shot.. quick shot quick shot vs laying on the nozzle.. you need to mist it...not drown it. If it fires up.. a talented guy can keep it running with the spray can. Either way..that'll tell you if you are getting fuel.

I'll have to try that tomorrow when I can get somebody to help me, any idea on if I'd need the complete assembly for the fuel pump and what the parts store guy meant by there were two different styles for my year of car?
